The main law dealing with citizenship in South Africa is the South African Citizenship Act 88 of 1995. Up until 30th June 2010 the original Act had been amended two times. First by Act 69 of 1997 and then by Act 17 of 2004 (Juta).
The fuss at the moment is because a new Bill has been proposed that, if passed, will amend the Act and among other things will affect dual citizenship.
